A CALL TO DANCE with Amrita Hepi
In October I stumbled upon an amazing opportunity. It was an invitation to dance with Amrita Hepi. I cannot say enough about what a wonderful, enlightening experience this was! There was a free showing for friends and family of the dancers who were involved, at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre. Amrita interpretted moves from each of the workshop participants and developed a half hour performance. It was an interesting experiment!

"What moves you? How do you move?
Indigenous dancer and choreographer Amrita Hepi invites you to meet her and workshop a movement that is all about you.
Amrita will then borrow your movement and create a dance that is given back to the place it was made in: Wollongong.
A Call to Dance is a participatory workshop for young women. Through time spent one-on-one answering a series of questions, Amrita will work with you to create a movement or a gesture that articulates something about you. Something uniquely your own.
Amrita’s work explores the importance of dance, the idea of ownership around a dance move, and how we all move together in society. She is a professional dancer, writer and activist descending from the Ngapuhi tribe in Northern New Zealand and the Bundjulung people in northern New South Wales.
Come and have a yarn, a cup of tea, or share a story. Share your move and help create a unique dance sequence.
